Internship Summary:

Tides’ internships provide a learning opportunity for people interested in social impact via innovative services, including fiscal sponsorship, philanthropic services, and/or impact investing. Each position has a specific area of focus and is a blend of hands-on, day-to-day operations, project delivery over the term and learning experiences with Tides’ staff and community. This year we are offering 2-3 internships.

The ideal candidates have a strong interest in the social impact sector with the ability to deliver on projects and tasks. Successful candidates will work efficiently and with a positive attitude in an environment that requires adaptability to shifting priorities. Candidates will also have a passion for supporting organizations with a social purpose.

Tides interns get:

• Part of our 2018 cohort of 2-3 interns
• A completed project to discuss with future employers
• Opportunities to meet with Tides’ staff for informational interviews
• Hands-on operational experience
• Orientation to Tides and an introduction to the social change sector
• Potential opportunity to present the completed project to staff
• Attend relevant staff meetings and functions

These internships are a non-exempt positions. Pay is $15.00 an hour at 30-40 hours a week. Internships start early June and end in late August/early September, spanning a maximum of 12 weeks.

Position Summary:

Tides has a new vision, mission and approach and recently launched a new brand identity and website. Along with these changes, the organization is building a strategic, integrated, leveraged communications and marketing effort to expand our reach, find Tides voice and engage current and prospective audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The communications intern will help execute plans to increase Tides’ brand awareness, outreach, promotion and marketing efforts, which could include:

• Applying new branding to key communications materials
• Creating and updating marketing and collateral pieces
• Writing, curating and other support for the monthly newsletter, Daring Change
• Social media support: suggesting posts; crafting initial draft text for outreach; monitoring and synthesizing analytics; developing social media graphics
• Writing and editing support for blog posts, website and collateral
• Assist with email list maintenance and outreach strategies, including a reactivation campaign, list segmentation, and automation workflows
• Media relations support, including management of media contact lists
• Maintaining and evaluating dashboards for media trends based on daily Meltwater editorial and social media updates; keyword development
• Research and assistance in the build-out of thought leadership and influencer strategy
• Assisting with website updates; putting our partner stories (of different lengths and formats) into Salesforce records
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in English, Journalism, Marketing or Communications preferred
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; keen eye for detail with exceptional proofreading skills
• Superb time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment and execute effectively against multiple projects and deadline
• Experience with tracking and presenting metrics and analytics a plus
• Be a resourceful, self-starter with an ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
• Be enthusiastic, creative, collaborative and curious;
• Graphic design experience with Adobe Suite and InDesign a plus
• Proficiency with MS Office suite of products
• Web and social media savvy
