For more than 110 years, Milton Hershey School (MHS) has helped children realize their full potential by offering a top-notch private, cost-free education to students in pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade from income-eligible families. To expand and enhance the impact of Milton and Catherine Hershey’s vision, the Boards and management of Milton Hershey School and the Hershey Trust Company are launching the Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning (CHS), a cost-free, non-residential early childhood education program.

CHS plans to open six early childhood education Centers by 2027. The Centers are designed for children from birth to age 5 from economically disadvantaged and at-risk backgrounds with the goal of encouraging the development of a child’s educational, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being. The CHS Initiative will provide a focus on core early learning programs through a rigorous and relevant curriculum that is aligned with a mission to nurture and educate enrolled children. Children also will receive supports such as nutritious meals and provisions of supplies, among other early learning enhancements. Finally, CHS will offer integrated support services for families of children enrolled in the Centers. CHS is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes diversity.

Role Description:

The Program and Curriculum Director of Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning reports directly to CHS’ Executive Director and will be responsible for developing, implementing, updating, and overseeing ECE programming and curricula across all CHS Centers. The selected individual will be ensuring NAEYC’s / OCDEL’s programmatic standards are met, identifying the most relevant materials and topics to cover, incorporating inclusion and behavioral health considerations into the curriculum, and ensuring that the program aligns with the mission and vision of the initiative. A successful Program and Curriculum Director is highly creative, very collaborative, extremely proficient in high-quality ECE pedagogy, and is a champion of the holistic approach to ECE.
The Program and Curriculum Director will be responsible for:

Developing and implementing the initial ECE program/curriculum for all CHS Centers
Reviewing curriculum proposals/changes from the CHS Centers
Ensuring compliance with OCDEL’s / NAEYC’s programmatic standards as applicable
Selecting and approving appropriate classroom materials for all CHS classrooms
Identifying evidence and reviewing trends to support instructional improvement
Cultivating a welcoming environment for all CHS staff, children, and families
Incorporating behavioral health, and diversity and inclusion considerations into all programming/curriculum
Ensuring all teaching/learning styles are accounted for in the program/curriculum
Overseeing key CHS programming and supporting leadership in areas including but not limited to, Professional Development, Quality Assurance, Health Services, and Research and Evaluation

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in related field (i.e. MS, MBA, MEd is a plus)
8 or more years of experience teaching / developing ECE programming/curriculum (preferred)
Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to inspire, lead, educate and collaborate
Exceptional organizational and time management skills
Strong relationships with ECE experts and an awareness of key trends across the ECE field
Willingness to be held accountable and receive feedback
History of achieving strong demonstrated outcomes
Experience measuring educational program-related outcomes and adjusting accordingly
Previous experience in new venture or similar entrepreneurial, high-growth setting (preferred)
Expertise in ECE pedagogy (preferred)
Experience developing/implementing a holistic, evidence-based curriculum (preferred)
Experience serving underserved communities (preferred)
Experience with multi-site operations (preferred)
Experience in the classroom, teaching in a high-quality ECE program (preferred)
Exceptional communication skills – written, verbal, and platform
Proficiency in using technology, including MS Office and Internet
Commitment to the mission and values of CHS and MHS and demonstrated high degree of integrity as all MHS and CHS staff are considered to be role models for students
U.S. work authorization required.
