For more than 110 years, Milton Hershey School (MHS) has helped children realize their full potential by offering a top-notch private, cost-free education to students in pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade from income-eligible families. To expand and enhance the impact of Milton and Catherine Hershey’s vision, the Boards and management of Milton Hershey School and the Hershey Trust Company are launching the Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning (CHS), a cost-free, non-residential early childhood education program.

CHS plans to open six early childhood education Centers by 2027. The Centers are designed for children from birth to age 5 from economically disadvantaged and at-risk backgrounds with the goal of encouraging the development of a child’s educational, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being. The CHS Initiative will provide a focus on core early learning programs through a rigorous and relevant curriculum that is aligned with a mission to nurture and educate enrolled children. Children also will receive supports such as nutritious meals and provisions of supplies, among other early learning enhancements. Finally, CHS will offer integrated support services for families of children enrolled in the Centers. CHS is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes diversity.

Role Description:

The Human Resources Manager of the Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning will develop, implement, and administer HR policies, programs, and procedures across the CHS Centers, including developing and implementing sourcing strategy, managing staff selection, compensation and benefits administration, and performance management development and implementation. In collaboration with CHS Center Directors and MHS HR staff, the selected individual will coordinate efforts in recruiting, hiring, training and retaining high-quality employees to support the CHS mission and vision. The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for:

Leading the development and execution of human resources functions that support CHS strategic plans
Oversees and implements CHS’s recruitment and onboarding process to attract top talent and retain a high performing workforce
Developing and managing talent partnerships and pipeline
Establishing and maintaining a qualified, diverse employee workforce to meet CHS staffing goals
Overseeing implementation of employee orientation, training programs, compensation & benefits, and professional development programs
Oversight of HRIS/ATS administration
Expanding and revising CHS-wide policies and procedures to ensure consistency across the initiative and compliance with laws and regulations
Developing and coordinating the performance management process for CHS Central Office and CHS Center staff
Providing consultation and guidance to managers on employee performance and conduct matters
Assisting with the development of performance improvement plans and corrective actions notices, and mediates as needed
Addressing and resolving employee concerns in accordance with applicable school policies and employment laws
Keeps current on employment and labor laws (local, federal and state)
Fostering an environment of positive employee relations and promoting an open door policy.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource or related field
5 years-experience in Human Resources (3 years in managing capacity & 2+ years of Labor and Employee Relations experience, preferred)
PHR/SPHR certification (preferred)
Experience using HRIS and ATS systems. Oracle/PeopleSoft experience is a plus
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, leveraging an empathetic and compassionate approach to HR that emphasizes people management
Ability to work under pressure, meet multiple tight deadlines, and adapt to managing peak work periods and changing priorities
Knowledge of the ECE talent market, including experience managing total compensation strategy
Strong understanding of ECE required skills and competencies
Experience managing total compensation strategy
Experience in an entrepreneurial / new venture environment (preferred)
Experience in employee performance management and evaluation
Experience in the delivery of effective employee training and professional development programs
Excellent project management skills, including time management, organizational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize assigned tasks
Working knowledge of employment and labor laws (local, federal and state) (preferred)
Experience in conflict resolution, corrective action processes and workplace investigations (preferred)
Commitment to the mission and values of CHS and MHS and demonstrated high degree of integrity as all MHS and CHS staff are considered to be role models for students
Exceptional communication skills – written, verbal, and platform.
Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to inform, inspire, negotiate and influence
Experiencie with multi-site operations (preferred)
Proficiency in using technology, including MS Office and Internet
Fluency in Spanish a plus
U.S. work authorization required.
